Product Information for SmartWare 4
Logos Integrated Systems is a third party developer of applications in SmartWare 4. Previous known as Smart 3.10, SmartWare II and SmartWare 4 applications can be converted and upgraded to the current
version. SmartWare 4 is an integrated product suite and cross-platform Development tool with a built-in Rapid Application Development system or RAD. Developers can cut their development time when they
create applications easily and quickly for use in the windows or LINUX operating systems. It has an easy to use Database, Spreadsheet, Wordprocessor suite yet it provides an unrestrictive language for advanced developers. Though applications can be developed with ease, Authorized Developers can provide excellent services for those seeking a professionally developed system. Technical support issues for Europe may be resolved through: CUSP (see their web site).
Because the user interface and language syntax is consistent throughout the suite, novices can learn one module
then easily progress to others - saving time and money on training. Further, with SmartWare 4 you can write an application once and copy it to any supported
operating system, usually without recompiling.
The Relational Database Module
The Database has the flexibility to manage all types of information with up to two hundred million
records. Features such as calculated fields and powerful tools like Query By Example, automatic query optimization, cross tabulation for performing mathematics or tabulating figures and the ability to
perform transactions on up to 250 files provide the features needed for successful database management. The built-in report generator can incorporate 127 data files into a report. The database supports
detailed summary and "total only" reporting. The use of B-tree field structure makes the locating of data fast. SmartWare 4's dynamic key structure ensures
keys and records are instantaneously updated as they are added or edited. You can build customized data screens that combine multiple files with specified colors, jumps and rules. Tables can be used to
create a many-to-one relationship. Custom menus can also be designed to simplify data entry.
The Spreadsheet Module
The Spreadsheet combines minimal and background recalculation, linking and auditing capabilities
with over 300 built-in functions, making it a powerful analytical tool. Each worksheet can have ten million addressable cells. The use of sparse matrix memory management allocates memory only for those
specific cells in the spreadsheet containing data. The spreadsheet can have up to 50 different worksheets in memory or displayed simultaneously on screen. Worksheets can be consolidated. The
spreadsheet includes presentation quality business and scientific graphics for easily illustrating your data.
The Wordprocessor Module
The Wordprocessor includes features like cut-and-paste editing, automatic reformatting,
search-and-replace, mailmerge, over 30 available typestyles and more to let you create professional looking documents. It also has a comprehensive spellchecker and thesaurus, automatic footnote numbering,
placement and paragraph numbering are also included. Using the built-in table of contents and index facilities, words, phrases or entire blocks of text can be marked for automatic generation. Variable
or equal column width areas can be included along with on-screen rulers for quick reformatting.
The Communications Module
SmartWare 4 includes an asynchronous communications module. A variety of modems are supported, including several 9600 baud modems and transmissions speeds of up
to 56 K baud. Smart Programming Language
More than a simple programming
language, the SmartWare Programming Language (SPL) is a complete programming environment. In its simplest form, it provides the same functionality commonly found in macro languages. The REMEMBER mode,
for example, allows novice users to record and replay keystrokes, commands, or a combination of both, while expert developers can use it to develop sophisticated applications. This robust programming
language contains all classic programming tools expected, including: Structured programming constructs, such as FOR, WHILE,
CASE and IF-THEN-ELSE More than 200 unique programming commands
More than 300 formula-related functions Interrupts and DDE
Libraries
User-defined public, local and
global variables
Multidimensional arrays
Variable and Array Pointers
In the Database, the SPL editor, Text Editor and Spreadsheet there is mouse driven cut, copy and paste. Additionally, we have included the WIN32 API Viewer. .Advanced programmers can
treat themselves to a database with 1543 Windows API function calls with sample code. There is also another database that contains 6407 named constants available to the developer for the customization of
his/her application.

LINUX Noncommercial Version
Linux is a very flexible and powerful operating system created in 1991. Often known as GNU/Linux it is a
free, UNIX-like operating system developed by Linus Torvalds for home PCs. Over the last several years, Linux has been gaining worldwide acceptance and support and now runs on a variety of platforms
including Alpha, SPARC, PowerPC, Carusoe, ARM, MC680x0 and many others. Linux is a multi-user, multitasking operating system whose technological heritage hails from the mainframe and the supercomputers for
which the UNIX model was developed.
Linux is also the birthplace of the open-source methodology which, derived from the free software philosophy, has spawned a revolutionary proliferation of free software. Today, there
are over 12 million users, and counting, as programmers, enthusiasts and end users exchange thoughts, contribute code and implement ideas that contribute this operating system. It is a viable alternative
computer operating system that can be downloaded FREE from the Internet or purchased on CD-ROM from several sources. You can learn more about Linux from these sources:
